La Spezia beaches are not in town : find out how to get to the best beaches in the area

La Spezia Beaches are out of town and beautiful

La Spezia is located on the rocky coast of the eastern Italian Riviera, namely the north-western arch of Italy forming the Liguria region. The dramatic spectacular cliffs landscape between mountains and sea here doesn’t leave much space for sandy beaches, and generally the shores are characterized by rocks and reefs punctuated with beach plots usually formed by small grainy stones and sometimes by sand. The variety of this jagged coast is one of its most charming aspects: islands and dryland, fully equipped beaches, desert stripes of land alternating with quaint villages make a few days in La Spezia area a chance to enjoy different aspects of a sea holiday in Italy.

Unfortunately, the city’s call for industrial and military sea industry hasn’t left beaches in town, but you can easily reach the surroundings with very clear blue sea shores, perfect for scubadiving, underwater photography and fishing, and large spots of large vegetation spots giving shade during the hottest days of the year.

The most loved beaches by Locals

In  Lerici you can find equipped beaches to relax for the whole day but in these villages as well as in the Cinque Terre the most frequent beach style is the free one. Not far from the town, you can find the beaches of Baia Blu – The Blue Bay – Fiascherino and the very secluded Caletta. These are attended mostly by locals from La Spezia for half a day or a whole day at the beach, as they are close to the city.

The Caletta resembles a Carabbean landscape

In Punta Bianca swimmers enjoy quiteness and a beautisful blue open sea

From the town of Montemarcello, you can reach the beaches of Punta Corvo and Punta Bianca, located after the eastern edge of the Gulf of Poets. They both request quite a hike to be reached and are less known for this reason, yet among the most beautiful La Spezia beaches, very appreciated by locals also for a pic-nic day out.

The beautisul town of  Tellaro also offers a few small beaches.

On the other edge of the bay of La Spezia, beside Portovenere, of course  you can enjoy a nice swim with locals also on the Island of Palmaria, with a few beautiful coves. The most ppular beaches on the island are the Cala Alberto and the Pozzale. They both can be reached by boat from La Spezia.

Le Grazie and Fezzano are sea villages with not very big beaches, yet they are easily reached from the city and allow a short swim in a nice clear water.
